Creativity,  Yoga & Hope | Wild Rice Retreat | Bayfield Wisconsin | October 13-16th 2022

with Mary Bue – Songwriter / Creativity Coach / YACEP / e-RYT 500

Featuring Fine Artist & Professor Sarah Brokke

& Fire Ceremony with Amy Swanoski

Join us for a weekend to ground,  nourish,  and stoke the creative spark with yoga, self reflection, writing, and music.

October leaves ablaze and aglow in peak season during this extended retreat weekend to delve into themes of hope, creativity, and resilience. There will be movement,  fire ceremony,  art making & instruction,  discussion on the creative process, self-reflection in meditation and journaling,  and luxurious / enlivening yoga asana with experienced instructors. Enjoy nourishing meals from Wild Rice’s James Beard nominated NOVO restaurant, and be instructed & serenaded by award winning artists Sarah Brokke & Mary Bue.

New in 2022: Our retreat begins at 4pm Thursday offering an additional day for a weekend to rest, reflect,  create,  wander the trails, bask in the beauty of Lake Superior, and SAUNA!  We will also enjoy a ferry trip to Madeline Island for an afternoon!  Everything is optional,  pick and choose as you wish.

At this retreat, we will spend time to gather insight,  reflect,  and release. How can we keep our creative fires burning for a healthy, productive, rejuvenating winter? How can we burn away what no longer serves our highest?  How can we nourish our inherent wellspring of Hope?   We’ll set intentions to enliven, focus on, and protect our brightest creative spark.

Wild Rice Retreat is naturally socially distanced and this experience is kept intentionally intimate for reflection and connection.

Guests also have the opportunity to come a day early to settle in for deeper rejuvenation and take advantage of Wild Rice’s world class amenities.

Sample Itinerary coming soon.   Our retreat experience will close after brunch on Sunday,  October 16th.

Wild Rice Retreat is an incredible place, envisioned in 1999 by Mary Hulings Rice & architect David Salmela to create a James Beard nominated restaurant, then a retreat center founded and inspired by Heidi Zimmer, and now with brand new, stunning lodging — of which we will be some of the first guests to experience!

“Located on the shores of Lake Superior just outside beautiful Bayfield, Wisconsin, Wild Rice Retreat creates a space for grounding the mind, body, and spirit through integrative artistic and holistic life experiences.  Our focus is on artistic excellence in teaching and thoughtful, supportive programming for individual growth.  Rooted in the idea of exploring and supporting expression in nature, Wild Rice Retreat offers a home for healing guided, personal and group retreats, meeting space, and events following the pillars of nourishment, expression, and movement.  Wild Rice Retreat is a vibrant, creative, and beautiful destination retreat center in the Upper Midwest.” WildRiceRetreat.com

Mary Bue – Retreat Facilitator

I am a lifelong musician, traveler, poet, journal writer, vegan, Nada Yogi, adventure seeker, retreat guide,  solitude craver, and yoga instructor of 11+ years. I’m based out of Minneapolis, roaming this beautiful world as much as possible. I am grateful to be named “Best Songwriter” of 2020 by City Pages and have been writing music and performing since 1998,  with 8 albums out now! I believe deeply in the richness of a creative life that is ever unfolding. One doesn’t have to play an instrument, write a novel, paint like Frida, or write like Mary Oliver to live a creative life. Every moment that unfolds offers opportunities to make something beautiful. While this may seem like a lot of pressure, rest in knowing that potential is ever unfolding, even in the silent and restorative times (like sleeping!). I look forward to sharing this beautiful & inspiring place with you. Please let me know if you have ANY questions. I am pretty much an open book (most of which can be discovered in this website or listening to my music!). Contact me via the contact link here or at marybue @ gmail.com

Sarah Brokke –  Guest Instructor

I’ve been a practicing and exhibiting visual artist for over 20 years, 17 of which have been devoted to teaching at a collegiate level. Few experiences are more powerful and enriching than combining travel and education, which I’ve had the great fortune to do with my students over the years. Whether you are an experienced, practicing artist, or don’t have any formal training or experience in visual art, this retreat will enrich your creative practice, and is designed to enliven your artistic path. All we ask is that you come to this retreat with curiosity and an open, inquisitive mind.  Any questions? Happy to answer any you might have at sarahbrokkeart@gmail.com. Amy Swanoski – Fire Ceremony

Amy Swanoski is a self-identified Neo-Pagan Witch living in St Paul, Minnesota.  The esoteric has called to and fascinated her since childhood.  More recently, she has been working with intention to incorporate a spiritual practice in her daily life.  Amy is honored and ecstatic to have the opportunity to share her gifts and passions during the Fire Ceremony.

During this ceremony,  we will utilize the transit of the waning moon through Gemini and the theme of BALANCE.

Amy credits a large part of her shamanic journey to the teachings of Astrologer Jessa Walters, her therapist Maya Mineoi, as well as Psychic Medium Marcella Kroll.  Amy survives under capitalism with her day job in Ophthalmology where she enjoys practicing alchemy through science.  She also dabbles in yoga, pole dancing, and is an amateur Tarot reader.

From Creativity, Yoga & Hope at Wild Rice – November 2021

Honestly, after over a year of reading her newsletter (where she writes/speaks to everyone as good friends that she’s sharing life with), I bought into Mary. I could tell over time that she is a deeply caring, genuine, creative, inspired soul that really wants to share her light and the knowledge she’s acquired so far in her journey, with others. I had never gone on a retreat of any kind, but trusted Mary’s guiding hand. The weekend was more than I could’ve hoped for, with a thoughtfully crafted schedule of events and free time, and space to meet new like-minded individuals. SO glad I did this.  – Maygen L.

This experience was extremely helpful to shove (not nudge!) me in the direction of a pull toward a transformation I was already going through (thanks Scorpio season lol). It was exactly what I needed and so nourishing. – Sarah N.

I wasn’t sure what to expect, and this experience delivered more than I could have hoped when it came to sparking my creativity and reconnecting with my inner self. – Brandy D.

What a magical, juicy, nourishing weekend we had!! This retreat exceeded my expectations in the most wonderful ways. I connected with others, relaxed, and found the peace and clarity I’ve been missing. (And the food was amazing!!) I will definitely be going on more Mary retreats, she was the most amazing hostess and I felt so welcomed. I was worried that I didn’t have enough yoga experience, but the classes were so accessible that beginners and experts alike enjoyed them. Much gratitude, Mary! ❤️ – Bethany M.

This retreat was just what I needed. I traveled alone, and when I arrived, I found a group of kind-hearted, open-minded souls. Mary strikes a good balance of holding space and offering openings for independent self-care. I’d recommend her retreats to anyone who needs some rejuvenation in their lives! – Julie R.

From Taos Creativity + Yoga Retreat 2021:

This retreat was transformative for me. From the moment Mary welcomed me to the Blue Sky Retreat Center to the moment we left, I felt loved, supported, and surrounded by new friends. Doing yoga in a circle in the yurt was especially spiritual and created meaningful connections between us. There was a great balance between time together, organized excursions and time to be alone, with everything being optional to fit our personal needs. Mary’s energy and radiance was evident in every aspect of the retreat and the concert in the yurt was amazing! I feel incredibly blessed to have had this experience and hope to make it to the next retreat. – Mary Z.

Mary Bue is truly an inspiration. I could not be happier with my first experience on a yoga retreat. I felt heard, cared for, and elevated. This retreat is suited for any and all experience levels with yoga. The friendships and connections I made with myself and others will last a lifetime!! So grateful!! – Melissa R.

The most calming, nourishing, peaceful time of my life – Maren L.

This was my first retreat with Mary Bue, and it won’t be my last. Mary did an awesome job crafting an interesting itinerary, and making changes as needed due to COVID restrictions. It was very obvious that she cared that each of us had the best experience possible. Our retreat allowed for time to bond with other retreaters as well as exploring the beautiful Taos town and culture. I recommend Mary and her retreats to anyone looking to enrich their life and make life long connections and memories. ❤️ – Lisa P.
